SAN Data Recovery

SAN cases require a clear picture of the storage environment

Storage area networks can involve multiple layers of shared storage, RAID, logical volumes and server or virtualisation dependencies. When access is lost, the recovery assessment needs to start with the affected storage, its configuration and the events that led to the outage.

Information useful for SAN assessment

  • Storage-system and array configuration.
  • Member-disk condition and known failures.
  • Volume or LUN information where available.
  • Recent controller, configuration, rebuild or maintenance events.
  • Symptoms observed by connected servers or virtualisation hosts.
  • Actions already attempted after the incident.

Protect the original storage state

Avoid reinitialising, rebuilding or creating replacement storage structures on the original media simply to test whether access returns. Record the original configuration and preserve the source devices where practical.

Assessment process

  1. Contact DataRecovery.lk and describe the SAN environment and loss of access.
  2. Collect the relevant configuration and source-media information.
  3. The case is assessed for data-recovery options.
  4. An assessment and quotation are provided.
  5. Recovery work proceeds only if appropriate and agreed.

Scope clarification

DataRecovery.lk provides data recovery assessment and recovery work. The public SAN service does not promise 24/7 engineering, remote incident response or guaranteed recovery.
