FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can every data recovery case be recovered?

No. Recovery options depend on the condition of the device or storage system and what happened before assessment. No recovery result is guaranteed.

What should I do if a hard drive is clicking or grinding?

Stop unnecessary use and avoid repeated power-on attempts. Do not open, initialise or format the drive. Contact us and describe the symptoms.

How long does an assessment take?

Our normal target for assessment and quotation is around three days. This is a target rather than a guaranteed turnaround.

Is the inspection fee refundable?

No. Inspection and evaluation fees are non-refundable.

What does “No Recovery, No Charge” mean?

It applies to the recovery/service charge where that principle is used. The inspection or evaluation fee remains payable even if recovery is unsuccessful.

Do I need an appointment to bring a device?

Yes. Visits and device drop-off are by appointment only.

Do you provide 24/7 engineering or recovery?

No. Normal customer intake is 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, with extended weekday intake until 7:00 PM for customer intake only.

Do you provide ransomware decryption or cybersecurity incident response?

No. The ransomware-related service is limited to assessing and recovering data from affected storage. It does not include dedicated ransomware decryption, cybersecurity incident response, malware removal or threat investigation.

Do you provide computer forensics or expert-witness services?

No. DataRecovery.lk is not marketed as a computer-forensics or expert-witness service.

How do I start a case?

Contact us by phone, WhatsApp or email and tell us what storage is affected, what happened and what has already been attempted.
