RAID Data Recovery

RAID recovery is a system-level problem

RAID recovery depends on more than the condition of one disk. The array layout, member devices, disk order, configuration, controller behaviour and any rebuild or reinitialisation activity can all affect the recovery path.

Situations that may require RAID assessment

• One or more member disks have failed or become unreadable.
• The array is degraded and data is no longer accessible.
• A rebuild or reconfiguration did not complete as expected.
• The RAID configuration or metadata has been changed or lost.
• Volumes or partitions became inaccessible.
• Files were deleted, formatted or corrupted within the storage system.

Preserve the array state

• Avoid starting a rebuild simply to see whether the data returns.
• Avoid reinitialising or creating a new array on the original member disks.
• Do not write new data to a degraded or unstable array.
• Record the member-disk order and configuration where known.
• Keep all available member disks for assessment.

Assessment process

1. Contact DataRecovery.lk and describe the array, symptoms and recent events.
2. Provide the member devices and any known configuration details required for assessment.
3. The storage layout and case history are reviewed.
4. An assessment and quotation are provided.
5. Recovery work proceeds only if appropriate and agreed.
