NAS recovery begins with the storage behind the network share
A NAS appliance can combine multiple drives, RAID, file systems and device-specific configuration. When shared data becomes inaccessible, the recovery case may depend on both the member media and the way the storage was configured.
Common NAS data-loss situations
- One or more member disks report failure.
- Shared volumes or folders become inaccessible.
- A RAID group is degraded or unavailable.
- The configuration has been reset or changed.
- Volumes or partitions cannot mount normally.
- Files were deleted or the storage was formatted.
Before attempting a rebuild
If more than one member disk is reporting problems, avoid repeatedly restarting the NAS or initiating a rebuild without first understanding the condition of the remaining disks. Rebuild and reinitialisation operations can modify the original state of the array.
What helps during assessment
- Keep all original member disks available.
- Record the original disk order where known.
- Record the NAS configuration and symptoms.
- Note any rebuild, reset, replacement-disk or repair actions already attempted.
Assessment process
- Contact DataRecovery.lk with the NAS model, storage layout and symptoms.
- Provide the relevant member devices for assessment where required.
- The case is evaluated for available recovery options.
- An assessment and quotation are provided.
- Recovery work proceeds only if appropriate and agreed.
